Homelessness is not an uncommon social issue in America, with over 500,000 people in the country currently experiencing homelessness. Though the numbers decreased between 2007 and 2016, it has been on the rise since then and will continue to be so unless an intervention occurs.
Of all the states in America, some experience homelessness more than others, and New York is one of those states with the second-highest rate of homelessness. The number of homeless people in New York was 91,271 in January of 2020. There are some resources available for folks without a place to live, but it can be hard to navigate the world of shelters, hotlines, and social services departments. We’ve collected some useful information here.
